Danka Basketball Sold $50,000 to Put New Shoes on Every Team Member

Double Good

Quinton Beasley is a man with big dreams—which is why he chose Double Good to help him make them come true.

“I started Danka Basketball because the kids in the neighborhood needed an outlet,” he says. “The area was lacking in sports facilities, and I wanted to make them available so we could keep the kids occupied.”

Quinton founded Danka Basketball in Maywood, a Chicago suburb in an economically challenged region west of the city. Danka Basketball is a competitive program that plays year ‘round. Quinton chose the name “Danka” after a childhood nickname his family gave him.

“I wanted Danka to create good memories for the kids to look back at,” Quinton says. “And I wanted to help them build their basketball skills so they could play as they advanced through school.”

“I wanted to raise money to buy every child in the organization a pair of basketball shoes. We held a fundraiser selling Double Good popcorn. I set a goal of $10,000—and we sold $50,000. We were able to buy more than 200 pairs of basketball shoes. The look on the kids’ faces was pure joy. “

A fundraiser that delivered far beyond expectations

Quinton needed to raise funds to bring his ambitious dreams to reality. He explored several options—including selling tickets to Chicago Bulls basketball games—that didn’t deliver the results he sought.

Then he discovered Double Good popcorn.

“I wanted to raise money to buy every child in the organization a pair of basketball shoes,” Quinton says. “We held a fundraiser selling Double Good popcorn. I set a goal of $10,000—and we sold $50,000.

“We were able to buy more than 200 pairs of basketball shoes,” Quinton reports. “The look on the kids’ faces was pure joy.“

Easy to organize, exciting to watch

Quinton says Double Good delivered far better than any of the fundraising options he’d explored. “Double Good popcorn is so much easier to sell than tickets,” he notes. “Everyone wants popcorn. Every parent on the team said they loved the popcorn.

“It was so easy for me,” he continues. “I didn’t have to do anything but send out text messages. And with the app, I could watch how much each of the kids was selling.

“I was checking the totals every five minutes,” he adds. “It was unbelievable—the joy of watching the numbers going up by the thousands, with so much participation from kids and parents.”

Total team engagement

Quinton’s team members took part in the fundraiser with great enthusiasm. “Every one of the kids customized their stores,” he recounts. “And I made it real competitive for them, with cash prizes for every top seller.

“The kids really turned on to the competition,” he continues. “Some of the kids had pretty large followings, and once those kids started selling, kids with smaller followings pulled their parents in to help them expand their networks. They were messaging each other in the team chat, and that raised everyone’s game.

“My top seller sold $4,000 of popcorn!” Quinton exclaims.

Making more audacious dreams possible

The success of Quinton’s first Double Good fundraiser has encouraged him to raise his sights and expand his ambitions. “Double Good helps me dream bigger in what I can achieve,” he states. “Now I’m building a gym so Danka Basketball can have its own facility. I’m raising $75,000 to get the project completed, and I’d only use Double Good to raise the funds we need.”

Selfless and dedicated leaders like Quinton Beasley stand tall in their communities, setting an example and enriching the lives of countless children. Double Good is proud to help the Quintons in every neighborhood increase the positive impact they deliver and make more dreams come true.
